Doolittle Raiders

On April 18, 1942, the U.S. Army Air Force executed an air strike on Tokyo led by Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, U.S. morale was low, and the raid provided a boost to both American spirit and propaganda with the success of the air strikes.

Hal Moore

Vietnam War veteran Hal Moore and his comrades in the Battle of Ia Drang have left a legacy among U.S. veterans. Then-lieutenant general, Moore commanded the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry regiment throughout the week-long battle, demonstrating acts of valor only of a true patriot. He would go on to win the Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest military decoration in the U.S. Army.

Kurt Lee

A Marine Corps’ legend, Major Kurt C.E. Lee was the first Asian American to serve as an officer in the USMC. He would be awarded the Navy Cross and Silver Star for valor during the Korean War, and go on to serve with distinction in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the AVC’s 2012 Raymond G. Davis Award for his valor in Korea.

Ed Shames

This oral history tells the story of Colonel Edward Shames of the famed “Easy Company”, 506th Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, also known as the “Band of Brothers” during World War II. Part I covers his early life, enlistment, training and ends with him and 101st embarking to England to take part in the Invasion of Europe. Produced by the American Veterans Center.

Willie Woods

One of the original Montford Point Marines, former Pfc. Willie Woods was among the first African Americans in the United States Marine Corps. Their outstanding service during and after World War II helped lead to Executive Order 9981, officially ending segregation within the United States military. The Montford Point Marines were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2012, recognizing them for their outstanding contribution to our nation’s history.
