Know a Local Hero?

Nominate your Hero to be recognized by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society in the Citizen Honors program

Please take a moment and nominate your unsung heroes for a very special national award. Each year the Congressional Medal of Honor (CMOH) Society recognizes three US Citizens for heroic acts in the Citizen Service Before Self (“Citizen Honors”) program.

With the Citizen Honors awards the CMOH Society recognizes ordinary Americans who have done extraordinary things at the risk of their lives in a moment of crisis or in a lifetime of service to others. Your hero could be a family member, neighbor, friend, or coworker, who has risked his or her life to save others, or has selflessly given time and resources to help others in need.

As you might already know the CMOH Society is exclusively composed of the living Recipients of the Medal of Honor, the Nation’s highest award for military valor. In establishing the Citizen Honors program the living Recipients seek to find hometown American heroes who through their actions have demonstrated the very traits that are emblematic of the Medal of Honor – courage, sacrifice, selflessness and patriotism.

American Heroes are made everyday in our state. If you know someone, or multiple individuals, who meet the criteria, please nominate them for the Citizen Honors awards by completing the online form at http://cmohfoundation.org/citizen-honors/. The deadline for nominations is Friday, January 10th, 2014.

An initial panel of judges of prominent Americans including Medal of Honor Recipients will consider all nominations and select 20 national finalists to received CMOH Society Certificates of Commendation. From those finalists, a second panel comprised only of Medal of Honor Recipients will select three individuals to receive the Citizen Honors Medal. The Medal is the highest award the CMOH Society can bestow and fittingly it is awarded on National Medal of Honor Day in ceremonies held at Arlington National Cemetery near the Tomb of the Unknowns.
